Roleystone Spring Clean Markets

My friends Ruth and Nhi joined me on a mini road trip out to the Roleystone Spring Clean Market today. The market had stalls of all kinds of lovely hand crafted jewellery, arts and craft, and food. There was live entertainment, pony rides, a petting zoo, plant displays, a vintage car and bike display and hot food.

We were so lucky that the weather was good today. It has been raining quite a bit over the last couple of days, so it was so great to have the sun shining all day. We managed to pick up a few jars of chutney and the girls discovered passion fruit butter and lemon butter. Unfortunately I couldn't try any because I'm vegan, but they seemed to really like it. I bought a jar of chilli jelly, peach chutney and tomato chutney. I'm so excited to use these in my cooking adventures!

The food available at markets usually consist of hot dogs and burgers etc which are not always vegan friendly, but there was a vegetarian stall at the markets today and they made the BEST vegetarian satay sticks. They used a soy meat substitute, grilled it on a coal grill and then served it up with the most delicious satay sauce. I could easily get addicted to these! It was a Malaysian family running the stall, and we loved that there were about 20 people hanging around the stall all having a good time cooking and serving up the food. It looked like a family run business or something :)

The AMAZING vegetarian satay sticks.
Another highlight of our day at the markets was the petting zoo that was set up by the company Old McDonald's Farm. All the animals were still young, which made them a thousand times cuter. There was an adorable piglet that was sleeping on a baby goat!! Our hearts melted, it was so cute. There were lots of baby goats and a super super fluffy baby alpaca. We spent so long at the petting zoo because we just couldn't tear our eyes away from their cuteness.

This is the piglet that was sleeping on the goat!! So cute!

Across the road from the markets was a car boot sale. It was all set up in a car park and people set up all there items for sale around their car. We came to have a look about the same time they started packing up so we didn't get to see all the bargains, but we still managed to walk away with a few things. There were so many things selling for 50 cents. Yep, dirt cheap!

We ended our day by stopping into a nice little fresh fruit and veg store on Raeburn Rd. It was situated right on a gorgeous orchard field. We bought some sorbet and sat out in the sun soaking in the sun rays and enjoying the view. It's days like today that make me appreciate just how lucky I am to be alive.
