Anyways, I don't want to give any spoilers away (and I won't), but it's a great read and it just adds more depth into the story of Wolverine which I already love so much.

Origin: The true story of Wolverine
My something new tonight isn't so much something exciting for all you readers, but I certainly was happy with it. My brother and I were talking about the origin of the X-men comic character Wolverine. The movies don't really go into much detail about his childhood and I don't really know where to look to find any comics which tell his story. Luckily, my brother is a far greater comic book geek than I am and he told me about a graphic novel explaining Wolverine's origins. A few weeks later, I came home late at night and found the comic sitting on the table where my brother knew I would see it. The cute thing had borrowed it from the library for me to read. So sweet of him!
Anyways, I don't want to give any spoilers away (and I won't), but it's a great read and it just adds more depth into the story of Wolverine which I already love so much.

The original rules for Monopoly
I played Monopoly with my little brother today. You might not think that this is something new, and playing the game certainly isn't new for me, but it was the first time I've played this game with Peter. It was also the first time I actually read the rules. Can you believe, I found out so many rules that I didn't know existed!! The great thing about Monopoly is that you can tweak the rules and play so that everyone is happy. I've always been quite happy to play it that way, but Peter and I decided to play by the original rules.
Here are some original rules that I didn't know existed:
And in case you were wondering, Peter absolutely destroyed me in the game. He had so many five hunned dolla bills and a whole empire on the red properties. Bled me dry of all my money haha. It was so much fun playing though. I love spending time with that kid.
Here are some original rules that I didn't know existed:
- If you land on a property and you don't want to buy it, then the banker can act as an auctioneer and auction it off. The bidding price can start as low as you want. I always thought that you just leave it if you didn't want to buy.
- Free parking really is just a free space. We always put the money from the chance/community chest and tax into the middle of the board and if you land on free parking then you get the money.
- After buying 3 properties of the same colour, you must space out your houses evenly between them. For instance, if you buy a house on The Strand and you land on it again, you can't put another house on The Strand. You have to put it on another red property.
- You can sell your get out of jail free cards if you don't want them.
- When you pay back a house which you have been mortgaged, you have to pay the price on the card as well as a 10% interest fee.

Epic
My brother is on school holidays and so we decided to hangout together today because we don't do enough of it sometimes. My brother really wanted to watch the movie Epic, and even though I wasn't as keen on watching it as he was, I still watched it with him anyways.
Well it turns out that we both really enjoyed this movie. It was funny and had many heart warming moments along with a few sad ones too. Better yet, Beyonce did the voice of the character Queen Tara. Is there nothing that wonderful woman can't do?!
This is a great kids/family movie for people of all ages. I give it 8/10.

Lunch at The Beaufort St Merchant, Mount Lawley
I organised to catch up with an old friend today who my brother hasn't seen in over two years. When I told him I was going to see her, Peter asked if he could come along too. I was just about to text her and ask if it was ok for him to join us when we had the idea of surprising her instead.
The plan was to hide Peter in the trunk of my car, lead her out and tell her that I had a present in there for her.
The plan actually went surprisingly well. When she opened the trunk Peter screamed and frightened her so much that she slammed the trunk closed again. Quite hilarious :P
That was the first (and probably only time) I have (or will) put a body in the trunk of my car. But no, that wasn't the only something new that I did today.
We had originally planned to have lunch at a new burger joint called The Angry Moose, but unfortunately it was closed today. Instead we wondered down Beaufort St and decided to eat at The Beaufort St Merchant. I've been there for breakfast a few years ago, but I've never actually been inside or tried their lunch menu.
This place was so lovely. It was warm and cosy inside and I really liked the decor. The food was quite fancy and well presented. I managed to order one of the vegetarian dishes which the chef was happy to make vegan friendly for me. It was very colourful with purple carrots, slices of radish, brown lentils and yellow cherry tomatoes.
My brother and friend ordered dessert afterwards which looked absolutely scrumptious. They ordered the chocolate fondant, which had popping candy inside, and the beer creme brulee which came with chocolate ice cream.
There's something so great about catching up with those rare and special people in our lives and tucking into some good grub at the same time. Our bellies were very full by the end of lunch and ain all, I was very pleased with my second visit to The Beaufort St Merchant.

The Wolverine
I finally took my favourite 12 year old comic book buddy to watch The Wolverine tonight. I love having a brother who likes the same movies as I do because it makes life so much easier to say "hey, let's go see a movie" from across the couch as opposed to having to organise it with friends who might not be available. Plus I'm paying so he's always keen to go :P
We really liked his movie. Really, really.
I slightly remember the storyline of the Silver Samurai, but for this movie, it was probably better to detach myself from whatever I could remember because the director did a good job with his own storyline.
The Wolverine had a bit of a different vibe to all of the other X-men movies, but it sure didn't lack in terms of action and entertainment. And wow Hugh Jackman knows how to get ripped. He is as brawny as Wolverine should be.
An 8/10 for the movie and a 10/10 for those muscles :P
If you haven't already seen the movie, make sure you stay to watch the end credit clip about the next installment of X-men: Days of Future Past. I'm so keen to watch it!

Front row in the Regal Theatre
My brother Peter has spent the last 3 to 4 months practising for his school's performance in a competion called Wakakirri. It is where schools create and perform a story in the form of dance.
He participated in Wakakirri two years ago and the school came second in Western Australia! I still remember going to watch that first performance like it was just yesterday. Time goes by so quick!
Even though I have seen a Wakakirri performance before, I'm counting this as my something new for the day because my dad and I ended up getting tickets in row A. I'm talking the very front row. We were sitting about a metre away from the stage. I've never been so close to the stage in the Regal Theatre before. Mind you, it would have been nice to be sitting that close when we went to go see Slava's Snowshow the other day, but oh well.
Everything just feels different when you're in front row. I could actually see up the hosts nose. I can't say it was any better though, because it was actually hard to see what was happening towards the back of the stage; but none the less, it was so nice to see all their cute faces up close.
These kids were so enthusiastic and so cute. You have no idea how cute they were. There was an adorable boy dressed as a pig with a little pig nose, and one school had about 10 students about 8 years old dressed as cupcakes with big paper mache cherries on their heads. Adorable!
I love when kids are passionate and enthusiastic about things. I was so proud to see Peter up there too. He can actually bust a move really well.

Man of Steel
Man of Steel hit cinemas on the 27th of June over here in Australia. As an avid comic book fan, I was super pumped to go see it but had to wait until today because of such a busy week I was having.
I brought along none other than my comic book partner in crime and brother, Peter. We were running late and so we ended up with seats five rows from the screen and all the way on the side. At first we were pretty disappointed, but once the movie started, it didn't really matter.
I really enjoyed Man of Steel. With all the Marvel movies that have come out recently, I've become used to these superhero movies being funny, but comparing Man of Steel to the Marvel movies is like comparing apples and oranges...or in this case, it's comparing two different comic universes.
At the end of the movie, one guy in my row cheered and clapped super loud. Not sure if he really liked it or was just doing that for kicks, but I don't disapprove. I thought it was a great movie too. I give it a solid 7/10.
In the car ride home, Peter and I were discussing the movie, and he goes to me "I like that Superman didn't wear his undies on the outside". Haha I was too engrossed in the movie to even notice. But yeah, I totally agree.

Brother-sister plank competition
The other day when Ruth and Nhi came over for our blogilates session, I realised that my lower body strength was lacking compared to my upper body. For the last couple of days I have been sticking to my thigh and butt workouts to the point where at church today it was a struggle to sit and stand up.
Keeping with my fitness theme, my brother and I decided to have a planking competition. We decided that he would plank and then what ever time he got, I would plank for triple that amount of time. Now for all of you who don't know, my brother is 11 years old so I was pretty confident that I would be able to complete the challenge.
He ended up planking for 50 seconds which meant that I had to plank for 2 minutes 30 seconds. Thank goodness too, because my personal best is 2 minutes so if I could get this then that would be a new record for me. I really don't think I could have planked for any longer than that at this point.
Even though I was able to plank the 2 minutes 50, let me tell you that it was so difficult for me. I could feel my back caving in and I was gritting my teeth from about the 1 minute 45 second mark. Although there is much room for improvement here, I'm still glad that I was able to been my own record. And I guess there isn't anyone better to compete against than yourself. Forget everyone else.

My brother Peter
My something new for today isn't anything big and spectacular, but for me it's exactly how I'd like to spend my Friday night.
My brother and I have been watching a lot of episodes of Friends lately. We have decided to watch all 10 seasons together and today we finished season 2. We both love Friends so much and we've made a pact that we won't watch an episode without the other. The poor kid, I'm not home all that often so he's the one who has to wait for me.
When we finished watching Friends today we decided to watch some Hey Arnold! together too. This is something new too because my brother let me watch all the episodes I've never seen before.
I really love spending time with my brother, and I have to make the most of this time because everyday I'm seeing him grow up into a typical teenage boy. He's starting chatting to his friends for hours on the net, playing video games, and has even discovered girls...or they've discovered him hehe.
I'm really lucky to have such a great kid in my life and I love that he's keen to do my new things with me.
My brother has taught me a lot; whether he knows it or not. Sometimes I wish that I was more like him. He has this innocence about him. He has this huge huge heart that is incapable of holding a grudge. He's a lot like my mum. She has a very forgiving heart too and the both of them inspire me a lot.
My brother Peter is such a kind person. In no way am I embarrassed at the fact that I'm learning and seeing how to be a better person from my 12 year brother. Sometimes we get so worked up in trying to be like our famous role models, but sometimes the best people to try and mirror are those closest to home. I've really taken to becoming more observant of all the good qualities of those around me. And please, if you see the good in someone, let them know exactly what it is you like about them :)

Oz Comic-Con
Luckily for me, I had my sister to share in my love of all things super hero and comics as well as a few other friends along the way. And now my brother is into it as well :)
A friend told me about the Oz Comic-Con which was held this weekend, and I decided to take my brother. Because to be honest, there isn't anyone left to share in my love of it. Well, not anyone who was free to come along with me at such late notice anyways. But I like that my brother and I have this in common. It gives us chances to talk and just hang out.
I'm a pretty busy big sister. I don't take my brother out as much as I'd like, and we rarely get the chance to just chill out with just the both of us, so I will take any opportunity, whether it be when we watch The Simpsons on the couch together or going out to events like Comic-Con.
I've been to a few similar conventions in the past such as the Wai-con anime convention and the Supanova pop culture expo. All have been pretty good, but Comic-Con had more hero merchandise so I think my bias is calling me to say that I enjoyed today's convention the best so far. Plus I really enjoyed spending time with my little brother. My brother is 11. He's come to an age where he spends most of his time on Skype talking to his friends. But he's a good kid. He still makes time to tell his older sister he loves her.
He may just be 11 years old, but he can be a good role model to me sometimes. He told me a few years ago about a girl in his class that didn't have anyone to play with and so she'd spend most of her lunch times alone. My brother then decided to introduce her to a friend of his and pretty much from then on the girl and my brother's friend became good friends and she had someone to hang out with. I wish I knew someone like him when I was his age.

Zucchini fritters and hummus
Ok, so here's a mission for you if you choose to accept: find me one vegan who does not like hummus. Go. Try it. I bet you won't find a single one.
I love hummus like you would not believe. There are so many different variations - garlic, sweet potato, white bean...and the list goes on and on and I never want that list to end because I'm crazy about the stuff. For all of those who don't know what hummus is, it's a Middle Eastern dip/spread made with chickpeas, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil and lemon in its most simplest form (more info here).
Today I was rushed for time to make some dinner for myself so I decided to pull out my Veganomicon cook book and whip up something from there. I found a recipe for zucchini fritters, and seeing as I have never made these before I made this my 'something new' for the day. I'm a bit of a fry-o-phobe, but because I was short on time, I cooked these in oil in a shallow pan. They were yummy and crispy and best of all, they tasted even more delicious topped with my homemade hummus. I used the hummus recipe from the Veganomicon book too.
Yes, yes, the food was great, but what made my meal even better was that my brother loved them too! My brother is 10 years younger than me and his taste is that of any 11 year old. He likes junk food. The fattier, saltier and sweeter it is the better. It surprises me every time he actually likes any of my vegan food, and today was no different. I've got him hooked onto hummus now too. Even though my jar of hummus will run out quicker, I don't really mind because I just love the fact that my brother is trying new things too...and liking it :)
P.s. I don't post up the recipes from the book because I don't want to get done in for copyright issues, but if anyone would like to try one of the recipes seen on my blog, don't hesitate to leave a comment and I will get back to you :)
