The Aviation Heritage Museum, Bull Creek

My family and I took a little day trip to go visit the Aviation Heritage Museum in Bull Creek. We ended up choosing a great day to go because the weather was so lovely. My brother and dad are always talking about planes. Any planes. Jet planes. Fighter planes. Any plane that was in any one of the World Wars. I didn't even know the museum existed until a few weeks ago, so I thought this would be something cool for my dad and brother. It was also my little brother's 12th birthday today so it was nice to do something as a family.

The museum was pretty amazing. The museum is split up into two warehouses and between the two of them, they're jam packed with 30 air crafts and hundreds of artefacts and pictures. If you wanted to read all the information about each item on display, you'd be there for days.

I'm always keen for a bit of learning, and walking around the museum was definitely good for that. Dad in particular loved it. He went around looking at everything in detail and could have spent all day there. His favourite part was the aeroplane engine display. I didn't even know my dad knew how a plane engine worked, but he told me that it all made more sense now that he's seen one in real life. He liked this place to much that we pretty much had to drag him out of the museum.

Apart from the learning and the family bonding time, what really made my day was the volunteer staff at the museum. They were so friendly! We met one lovely gentleman who was retired and had been volunteering at the museum for 3 years. He told us that the whole museum was looked after and run by one full-time manager and 130 volunteers! Wow! So the volunteers do everything from manning the counter, cleaning and repairs and maintenance of the air crafts. Incredible.

The whole day today was just fantastic. I highly recommend checking out the museum. In particular check out the North wing warehouse which has everything from World War II and after. It'll blow your mind just how huge the planes and bombs (yes bombs!) were. It sent chills down my spine just imagining the devastation one of the bombs would have caused. Even if you go just once, definitely check it out.

My favourite display: the Arvo Lancaster Heavy Bomber Mk7

Huge bomb. Absolutely massive.

Perth Museum, CNR Kitchen and A$AP Rocky

I have had a super busy day filled with a lot of new things :)

I'll start with my trip to the Perth Museum. My friend Kate, who I recently went to Melbourne with decided that she is going to spend the next 6 months doing something new each week. This week she planned to check out the State Library and Museum and was so kind as to invite me along.

I can't remember the last time I've been in the Perth Museum to view an exhibition. I'm not even sure if I've ever been to be honest.

The exhibition was called Secrets of the Afterlife: Magic, Mummies and Immortality in Ancient Egypt, and it was a collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. There were mummy tombs, jewellery, spells and illustrations of papyrus, hand-made tools and everything else related to how the ancient Egyptians prepared for the afterlife.

The exhibition was great and I loved how enthusiastic the staff were. They all seemed to be so happy to be there and that good feeling rubbed off on me.

The next new thing Kate and I did was eat lunch at a cafe called CNR Kitchen in Northbridge. I saw this cafe come up on Urbanspoon while I was searching vegan friendly restaurants in Perth and it's been on my list of places to go for a while now.

We thoroughly enjoyed the food here. Everything was so fresh! I finished the meal feeling very full, but not that horrible kind of feeling after eating an unhealthy or heavy meal. I ordered a Cupid's Arrow drink which is strawberry, cacao, agave, almond milk milkshake. It was very different, but surprisingly refreshing for a milkshake. The fresh strawberry juice is what gives it that fresh taste.

I also ordered vegan sliders. Instead of using those cute mini burger buns, they used think tomato slices. This was a raw meal. Normally I'm not a huge fan of raw meals because sometimes I don't find them very filling, but this was great. I highly recommend it; but you have to be a tomato lover if you want this dish.

Left: watermelon, apple, pear and lemon juice. Right: strawberry, cacoa and agave almond milk milkshake

House fries with vegan mint aoli and tomato sauce. Vegan sliders.

Vegan lasagne.

My night ended going to see one of my favourite rappers, A$AP Rocky. To be honest, I've only just discovered him this year through a friend, but I am hooked. The show was great and I just loved being around people who were into the same kind of music that I like.

The night was everything you'd expect from a guy like A$AP Rocky. It was wild. Or as my friend would say, it was hectic!

Getting my intellect on

The family and I took a day trip to The Field Museum in Chicago today. I feel really jealous of the kids (and everyone else) here who have the opportunity to come and soak in all the knowledge that this place has to offer. I won't go on forever about it, and anyone who ever gets the chance to visit Chicago should most definitely pop in. The admission cost is good and if you went and read every bit of information on the walls/displays, then not only would you make for great dinner party conversation, but you'd have to make two trips to the museum I reckon. I can't remember if I've ever been to a museum before but this one had me so captivated. It was anything but boring. Opportunities to explore places like this make me so grateful that I have eyes to see, an ability to read and the brain capacity to understand and be in awe.
