RSL pin up girl car wash

I came across an event listed on Weekend Notes which sounded pretty cool. A Pin Up Girls Car wash was being held in order to raise money for The Returned & Services League (RSL) Nollamara branch. I thought it was a cool idea to get your car washed by girls all decked out in pin-up girl gear so I got the girls together and we all headed out to get Ruth's car washed. They had quite a good set-up. There was the car wash going on, live music and a sausage sizzle. They were also selling RSL calendars which had photos of the same girls who were doing the car wash. They did a really good job with the calendar photos. They event did a photo shoot with one of those war-looking planes! Very cool.

That double bass :) You don't see that everyday.
An awesome cannon/machine gun looking thing out the front of the RSL clubhouse.
The RSL clubhouse is right behind the Nollamara shops which I have been to many times, as I used to work near there. However, it wasn't until today did I even realise it existed. It was a nice hall with a bar and kitchen. There were pool/snooker tables, dart boards and some game machines. Along the back walls were real war artifacts, uniforms, photos and documents all on display. We spoke to one of the nice blokes from the RSL society which was responsible for categorising and organising the displays. He gave us the low down about what the club is about and how most of the things on display either belonged to members and family members of the RSL or were donations. It was really interesting hearing about the history behind many of the war artifacts.

This rifle with a bayonet attached caught me eye. I would be absolutely petrified if I had this pointed at me.
We thought these ships were pretty awesome. They're made from beer cartons!

There were also lots of cool cars at the car wash. It was like each car had it's own personality :)

We liked these bullet hole stickers
A car within a car. Car inception.
The girls and I definitely stood out today at the car wash. Everybody had a very biker-esque and rough exterior. We were like dainty little roses amongst thorns if you need a visual description. At first glance, I would normally feel intimidated by this kind of crowd, but we ended up talking to a lot of them and they all were so nice. They were all funny guys who were just happy that more people were learning about the RSL, it's members and what it's all about.

I'm always reading on Marc and Angel that we should be doing something everyday that makes us uncomfortable. What they mean by that is to do something new and put yourself in situations outside of your comfort zone. I never really grasped the concept of this until today. The girls and I put ourselves outside our comfort zone and in the process learned some new things and met some pretty awesome people.

I'm a huge advocate for self growth and development, and today I was able to practice the all-time valuable lesson not to judge people by their appearance. I stepped out of my comfort zone today, and even though it was a bit strange at first, so much good came of it.

Abseil for PMH

I heard about an amazing fundraising event called Abseil for PMH earlier this year and knew pretty much straight away that it was something I had to do. Not only do I support the work of Princess Margaret Hospital, but I am also willing to do just about anything for a bit of adventure and thrill seeking.

Abseil for PMH involved abseiling 125m down the side of the Woodside Plaza in the Perth CBD. The first step to getting involved was to register and make a donation of $100. The next compulsory step is to fundraise $500 before being able to make the descent down Woodside.

About a month ago, I went to a meet and greet event for the PMH abseil and got a look at some of the amazing rooms within the hospital. The event was held in the Megazone on level 7 of the hospital. I'd never been there before, and when I saw the rooms I was so impressed. It is a recreation and leisure area free for all patients, family and friends. There are a lot of different things to do in the various rooms in this area and it offers a fun enviroment for those who need a break from the wards. After seeing such a wonderful space for patients to relax in, I felt an even stronger motivation to offer my help to the hospital. I think I felt this way because I knew that no matter where my contributions went, it would be spent on something good for these kids; whether it be for medical equipment, money for research or funds to buy new game consoles for the Megazone, it would all be worth it if it meant that someone's stay in PMH would be better.

All of the money raised for the Abseil for PMH will be going towards funding the Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Fellowship. It's a great thing to support :)

The abseil today was amazing. I have done some abseiling for school camps, but nothing has ever come close to descending 125m off the side of a building. Standing on the edge of the building and leaning back was the scariest part. I confess that I did look down and even though I wanted to be brave, it freaked me out a little. One hundred and twenty five metres is a long way from the ground. They sent us up in groups of 4 abseilers, and one of the girls I was talking to said that this abseil was scarier than the two skydives that she has done. I guess it's because you don't have much time to be scared when you skydive. They kind of just push you out, whereas with the abseil, you have to rely on your own feet to get you to the bottom.

I was very lucky and had my friends and family come out to support my abseil. I could hear them cheering me on as I came closer to the ground.

I'm filled with such an overwhelming feeling of gratitude right now as I type up this blog post. Not only do I have such wonderful people in my life, but my life itself is wonderful. Not because I have all the things that I want, but because everything that I already have is enough.

I will finish off my post tonight by letting you know that there is still time to donate. Donations will be accepted up until Sunday the 8th of December. Please, if you haven't done your good deed for the month of November and you'd like to help out the kids at PMH, please hop onto my fundraising page and make a contribution to better the lives of the kids who may need the help of the ENT fellowship. Any contribution big or small is still an amazing effort :)

I'm on the far right. There was a photographer at the top who was taking snaps. They told us to let go of the rope, hence my arms are spread wide haha

Perth's Big Cake Bake Off and Ace Pizza in Mount Lawley

I found out about a fundraising event for the Red Cross out at Ascot Racecourse from the Perth Weekend Notes website and was quite worried that it was going to rain like it has been for the past couple of days. Yesterday in particular had very heavy rain fall and strong winds. But luckily for everyone who went out today, the weather was beautiful. The sun was shining and there was a lovely slight breeze. Perfect weather for the Perth's Big Cake Bake Off

The cake entries were very impressive. The novelty cake exhibition was my favourite. The talent was just amazing! After the cakes had been judged and the winners announced, you could buy a slice of cake for a gold coin donation.

The popcorn was made out of marshmallows!!

My favourite :)

There was quite a lot to see and do, especially for the little ones. There was a petting zoo with pony rides, a bucking bull, bouncy castle, candy stall, a kids dance competition, a men's dart competition, clothes and jewellery stalls and food for sale. We tended to gravitate towards the candy and fairy floss stall :P

Little Batkid on the bucking bull. So cute.

There were also lots of goodies being raffled as well. We bought raffle tickets for a giant Toblerone and 10kgs of Cadbury chocolate in a giant novelty box. So cool...but alas, we didn't win. It's probably better that way because we already overloaded on enough sugar for one day.

All of us had never been to the Ascot Racecourse, so that was another new thing for today. No matter where I go, it's always a great time when I'm with my girls (plus my brother today) :)

I also did another new thing for today and had dinner at Ace Pizza on Beaufort St in Mount Lawley. I've seen a lot of good reviews on Instagram and so we took our friend there for his birthday.

The restaurant was very spacious and had a very modern look to it. The walls were dark and the lighting was dim, but it all added to the nice atmosphere. The place was very busy, so it was lucky we made a reservation.

My friends ordered two pizzas and I got the beetroot salad (minus the ricotta cheese). Unfortunately the pizza dough was not vegan friendly, but it was OK because the salad tasted really good. The serving was huge, so I was very full by the end of dinner. What I enjoyed about this salad was that it had both cooked and raw beetroot. The cooked beetroot added a lovely sweetness, while the raw beetroot added crunch. There was rocket and walnuts in the salad as well. It was just delicious.

For dessert my friends ordered the soft serve which came with salted caramel topping, chocolate ice magic, crumbled biscotti and honeycomb. Are you drooling yet?

This is definitely somewhere everyone has to check out at least once. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :)
